Karen, many senior employees do not have the skills needed to facilitate learning in others. One option for the senior employee is to move from industry to academia, where he/she can get teacher training, and the environment to pass on technical skills to a large number of students. I noticed your blog post through Blog Link which announces it to your LinkedIn contacts. It is incumbent on us as organizational leaders to help these senior employees transfer their years of knowledge to the next generation. The loss of continuity can be staggering.

We can help them by not just throwing them into a mentoring situation and expecting them to do well but by giving them some tools and training to facilitate the process.
