The Absolutes of Leadership

One of the premises of Philip Crosby’s book The Absolutes of Leadership is anyone, by harnessing and cultivating the right personality traits, can become a good leader. Something I have found in my studies of leadership and my experiences in the workplace are there are NO absolutes when it comes to leadership.

I agree with Crosby when he asserts that the following is important:

A good leader has a personal philosophy, something he or she believes passionately in. People are never inspired by someone who is lukewarm or wishy-washy.

A good leader is always learning, searching, never sitting on his or her laurels and expecting that just because they handled one situation with aplomb a similar situation deserves the same solution.

I can tell from my recent experience, inconsistency and lack of follow through will sour subordinates faster than you can say, “I quit.”
