In my line of work, it is often the end result people witness. They are amazed that a regular gal can seemingly wing it, never get flustered, and always seem to have the answers while being witty and charming. All this while actually teaching them something they thought they weren’t capable of. It’s hard work to say the least but I love it.
I want to share my secret with you. For every 3 hours I stand in front of a group of participants, I spend 4 -5 times as many hours preparing, researching, and mulling over my subject. Even workshops I have taught before always have an element of uncertainty because each group has a different dynamic and each venue has its own set of variables. There are literally thousands of permutations. Yet each time, I step into the fray, smile, and get started.
Lately, I have thrown myself into some work activities that are stretching my abilities to new levels. It is scary and often frustrating (did I mention scary?) but just like an athlete, one must push beyond the comfort zone to stay in the competition.
Let me ask you, have you been out of your comfort zone lately?
